VANCOUVER - Headline Gallery’s second exhibition, Encounters: Embracing our Differences, will be open to the public from August 3rd - August 30th. Featuring work by Antonio Hyeok Lee & In Elements Designs, the gallery will be transformed into a tranquil space—an escape from the busy city that facilitates reflection and appreciation for design.
Headline Gallery founder Misa Yamaoka, 19, says that “Vancouver continues to place emphasis on sustainable, and tactile design and architecture as we develop our cityscape, Antonio and In Elements Design infuse their work with the same ethos - creating work that coaxes the brain and pleases the eye.”
Antonio Hyeok Lee, born in Busan, Southeast Korea, uses his practice to explore the tensions and harmony that arise from accidental encounters. Encounters between contradicting cultural groups experienced in Korea, during his studies in Italy, and now in Canada, where he calls home, fuels his artmaking. On show are works that fuse linen and oil paints. Audiences can find themselves lost within the delicate yet demanding nature of Lee's work, eyes dancing between his larger than life pieces and smaller collector canvases creating a sensory experience.
In Element Designs is a Vancouver-based multidisciplinary art studio. A collaboration between Seiji Kuwabara and his lifetime partner, Himali Kuwabara, the pair have cultivated their shared philosophy of combining form and function to create unique art that transforms interiors into harmonious living spaces.
Dedicated to finding balance in design and creating greater awareness for the environment, their production style focuses on sourcing minimal and sustainable materials. Launching their KIGI chair, pieces on display represent the height of architectural furniture design, bringing new refinement to the craft.
Encounters follows-up the success of Gallery’s first exhibition, Authentic Self: A New Equilibrium, which features an impressive set of female artists who challenge art creation with their use of medium and tech. Not to be missed, Authentic Self is open to the public until July 30th.
